VW First Act Guitar

Remember when VW had that special promotion where if you bought the car you would get a free guitar?  Well, someone on flickr got one and took some photos.  But the guitar isn't just any regular guitar.  Your car's VIN number is specially designed on the guitar, the strap is the same material as the seatbelt strap, the color of the guitar matches the exact color of your car, and the blue light from the guitar is the same blue light from all VW dashboards.  Rock!

Speaking of axes, I heard that the head of marketing for VW is getting one. Total unconfirmed rumor, but if it's true it doesn't bode well for CP+B. Anyone know any more dirt?

the attention to detail is prety impressive. I think it's a solid example of how to extend and blend the VW brand w/ an iconic symbol like the guitar. Music and automobiles already have such strong attitude that it was smart to connect the two. Thanks for sharing the pics

You heard the haed of marketing for VW is getting an axe? That's awesome. I wonder if he/she will take any lessons or maybe they're already able to play.

Why does this make me not want to buy a VW? This one has Alex Bogusky & his groupies written all over it.

If you don't want it, sell it on e-bay. It is a decent guitar and a great collector piece. It is a beginner guitar but surprisingly, it kicks butt. It plays well, sounds great, stays in tune and looks cool. All the accessories make it that much better. They are going for $150-400. It's a fun give-away and a clever promotion. IMHO...especially with Slash and the stacked V-dubs. LOL

I have one of those guitars. A coworker of mine bought the car but had no use for the guitar so I picked it up for $50. I own a Strat, a vintage Guild JetStar and a few others and I must say that the VW one is a great guitar. It's very playable and looks to be well made. One cool feature is a a built in pre-amp that also works as a distortion effect

Picked one of these up two years ago on ebay after reading the reviews on them. Must say that I love it. The longer I have it, the more it grows on me. I took it to the local Sam Ash to have it restrung and set up when I got it and it was well worth the money. Pre-amp is very cool, but tough to impossible to toggle on/off mid-song, so don't look to it to replace a good distortion pedal. All in all, the best deal I've ever found on an instrument (paid around $100) and one of the best little secrets out there. I would have spent hundreds more for this axe.
