Starting to change
After working in Chicago this summer, the prevailing attitude from people in the industry was that BBDO Chicago was the weakest agency in the city. Well, I think David Lubars and the success of the New York office is starting to have an effect on the Chicago office. They changed their name to Energy BBDO, and have recently done two pretty good interactive sites, something that never seems to come out of Chicago, besides the stuff Cramer Krasselt did with monk-e-mail . These by far aren't the most amazing pieces of advertising I have seen, and one is somewhat similar to stuff Wieden did a couple years back, but compared to what they were doing before, it's pretty damn good.

GG,
You are the best running back I've ever seen.

If I ever get the urge to make a late late late run at the NFL, you're my agent. No negotiation needed.

Greg, no offense, but you seem a bit out of touch. Among the big agencies, Chicago has worse agencies than BBDO. Much worse. Like J. Walter Thompson, Element79 (which is essentially a reincarnation of J. Walter), Euro and Foote Cone. Not that "Energy" BBDO is anything to write home about, but it's not the worst. Secondly, it seems like BBDO New York is doing worse work and maybe worse financially since David Lubars arrived. The Mitsubishi work, for example, is horrible. Snickers got much worse and just left. As did other Masterfoods brands before it. So I'm not really sure what you mean by "success of the New York office." Or, maybe you're trying to get a job with David, so you're playing the game. Understood. And to define this gum work as "pretty damn good" is pretty scary. It's trying way too hard and hardly makes sense. And it's nothing new on the Web or otherwise. Yes, that's my opinion, but I've heard it echoed over and over.

BLAST YOU, ROB ANTLEY! ARRR! Had to squeeze your name in there, didn't you.
My hat's off to you, dear sir. Embrightenment indeed.

Disregard that last comment. I misheard. Thought the cult guy was saying "Rob Antley" when, upon closer inspection, he says, "Rob AnTHONY". I was wondering. I didn't think Rob worked for EVB or BBDO.

Just as an FYI, Energy BBDO had nothing to do with Friends of Bright. It was an entirely original concept by EVB.
EVB also created the entire CoolBreathPower site, although this one does leverage the BBDO spots. Thanks for the nice words!
