FedEx Furniture: It's OK to be ghetto

This is weird.  You have to read it to believe it.  Smart? Stupid?  You decide.  There's a a guy who made all his furniture in his apartment (couch, bed, desk, dining table, chair) all from FedEx boxes.  He then made a website full of pictures that then got written up in Wired.  You have to see more of the pictures to believe it.  The bed is amazing in that he used the soft packaging mailers.

He never intended to make money from the site, or to exploit FedEx in any way. He said he simply wanted to spread the word that "it's OK to be ghetto."

damn, what a great line.

Why is FedEx suing when this guy is giving them all this free media coverage?  The message ain't that bad when it's saying they have safe and strong delivery boxes.

Remember the movie, Castaway?

This reminds me of a guy I went to CCA with in San Francisco named, Kenny. He grew up in Palm Springs, his parents owned the L.A. Rams and he always talked about a space station out of cardboard that he built at home in the desert. I never believed him but then one day he invited us to his apartment in San Fran. His entire apartment was a series of duct tape and tin foil covered cardboard mini rooms. All of which led to a small mirror covered fun house room in the middle of the apartment. He ended up getting kicked out of that apartment and then kicked out of school for throwing a large clump of clay at some punk skateboarder who wouldn't quit yapping off about Kenny's ponytail. That was the last I saw of Kenny. I wish I knew what happened to him.

Since FedEx is suing him. It seems like a perfect PR move for DHL or UPS to jump in and send him a buttload of boxes, and maybe a little cash.

What century is FedEx operating in? Clearly, the 20th. Time to wake up Memphis! It's citizen's media time.

I remember reading this story years ago. Seeing beds, office furniture and sofas made from FedEx boxes was as many of the retailers I work for use these for shipping everyday and I never thought you could use them as furniture. :)

I wonder what ever happened to the fedex box furniture builder? I know there was quite a backlash against FedEx for the negative way they went about handling the situation.
